Some services are available to anyone while some are restricted geographically or have income or other eligibility requirements. About the Program

  1. Green Apple Bikes (GAB)
    GAB establishes a new form of public transportation for Manhattan, Kansas. One that is healthy and safe, is environmentally friendly, accessible for all users, and financially sustainable to operate.

    Bike share is an important part of Manhattan’s integrated public transportation network, connecting communities to more destinations across the city. Bike sharing is ideal for short distances, allowing users the ability to pick up a bicycle at any “self-serve” station and when finished, park neatly upright anywhere for other riders to enjoy and share. Green Apple Bikes is not owned by any government or corporation. It is entirely run by a board of volunteers. Bicycle maintenance is provided by volunteers. The bicycles available for public use are 1-speed beach cruisers.

    Essential Bikes
    Essential bikes is a program designed to address community transportation needs, by providing donated bicycles to individuals that are found in need.

ATA BUS

The Flint Hills Area Transportation Agency (ATA Bus) plans, manages, and operates public transportation services within the Manhattan, Urbanized Area, Riley County, Pottawatomie County, and Geary County. FIT Closet

The USD 383 FIT Closet & Clothing Exchange assists McKinney-Vento qualified/FIT students enrolled in the USD 383 school district by providing what they need to successfully integrate into school as well as find success in their educational journey.  This assistance comes in the form of (but is not limited to) school supplies, school-appropriate clothing, and personal hygiene items.

Thanks to the generosity of our community, we’re also able to serve students who qualify for free/reduced fees (and their immediate family – parents and siblings who are not yet school age

Welcome to Shepherd’s Crossing

Together. That’s the spirit in which pastors in the Manhattan Ministerial Association opened Shepherd’s Crossing in 2001. Facing ever-increasing requests for financial assistance, area churches and pastors created the mission-centered outreach program to serve our brothers and sisters in Riley County and St. George with financial needs. Today, approximately 60 faith-based, civic organizations and agencies provide critical support for this community-focused ministry.

An ecumenical ministry, Shepherd’s Crossing offers assistance in three key areas:

The Manhattan Workforce Center is a single point of entry to a network of employment, training, and educational programs and providers in Pottawatomie and Riley counties.

The Manhattan Workforce Center helps employers find skilled workers and helps career seekers access the tools needed to manage their careers through high quality information and services.

24 Hour Domestic Abuse Sexual Assault Crisis Center

 

The Crisis Center’s mission is centered around helping community members who are in need find safety, security, and a life free from violence.  Our trauma-informed services are available 24/7, 365 days a year.

The Crisis Center serves Clay, Geary, Marshall, Pottawatomie and Riley counties, and the Fort Riley military installation. The Crisis Center also administers the statewide Kansas Crisis Hotline.

Konza Dental Clinic

At Konza Prairie Community Health Center, we offer a wide range of dental services with a smile! We provide affordable, high-quality care for all ages and we never refuse care due to an inability to pay. Services are provided by highly skilled and compassionate providers working as an integrated team.

Additional Konza Community Dental Outreach staff provide childhood oral health screening at 70 schools in 16 districts throughout the region. Providing services on-site improves access to care and oral health outcomes for Kansas students.

Appointments are needed for most services, although many times we may be able to see established patients the same day you call.

Pawnee Mental Health Services

Pawnee Mental Health offers a wide range of community services for adults with Severe and Persistent Mental Illness (SPMI). Individuals must meet specific state criteria for diagnosis. Clients receive a variety of services in the home and other places in the community as determined by their treatment plan.

Our programs support the dignity and individuality of each client. Our staff helps each person achieve recovery in as many areas of life as possible, including emotional strength, self-respect, interpersonal skills, vocational and occupational satisfaction, and a sense of community belonging.

Our services bring Pawnee staff together with others in the community to help individuals with severe and persistent mental illness learn to manage the symptoms they experience, allowing them to be active and contributing members of their communities.

We serve the at-risk population, people without insurance that live within poverty guidelines, including those with communication barriers. We are here to serve the community and surrounding areas.  We provide free, great quality healthcare to our patients because we care.

Manhattan Emergency Shelter Inc

MESI serves homeless men and women over the age of 18 and homeless families with and without children.  To qualify for services, an individual must be without a home and requesting emergency shelter, have identification, be free of sex offenses, and not be on the no return list.  An individual may be placed on the no return list if they have seriously violated MESI’s policies in the past, been provided financial assistance in the last year with a sustainable housing plan, or stayed at the Caroline Peine Transitional Shelter repetitively.

Harvesters Mobile Food Pantries

Who We Are

Harvesters provides food and related household products to more than 760 nonprofit agencies including emergency food pantries, community kitchens, homeless shelters, children’s homes and others. We also offer education programs to increase community awareness of hunger and teach about good nutrition.

Harvesters is a certified member of Feeding America, a nationwide network of more than 200 food banks. In 2011, Harvesters was Feeding America’s Food Bank of the Year. We are a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
